What do trees do for our earth?

Trees absorb pollutants through leaves trapping and filtering pollution in the air. Trees also produce oxygen through photosynthesis.

How do trees feed?

Through a process called photosynthesis. Chlorophyll cells take in carbon dioxide then combine dioxide with water sent up from the roots of the tree. The leaves then use the water and carbon dioxide from the air in combination with sunlight to turn the water and carbon dioxide into glucose for energy to grow and maintain its life.

How far do tree roots in the Midwest spread?

Most tree roots spread 2-3 times the radius of the canopy. Under good soil and moisture conditions, roots have been observed to grow to more than 20 feet in depth. A healthy root environment consists of adequate growing space for the root system in good soil and sufficient water supply.

Helpful Tips:

Always consider where you are planting your trees. Give the canopy and root systems room to grow and spread. Know what species of trees to plant and where. Keeping your trees thinned out throughout its life will allow the wind and sunlight to get through. Removing any rubbing or crossing limbs will help keep the tree limbs from rotting away. Properly maintained trees are always healthier and happier!
