Get to know your tree species. Trees require routine maintenance. Most trees have different cycles requiring them to be maintained at different times of the year. The best time to maintain your trees is during the dormant season. When you trim trees during the wrong time of the year it makes them vulnerable to insects, which are host to tree killing bacteria, and fungi.
Maintaining your trees creates strong, and well-balanced canopies which help decrease the chance of damage from wind, storms, and snow. Keep your trees thinned allowing the wind to breeze through your trees, and not at it. Remove dead wood, and weight reduce limbs if needed.
If you can't see through the tree branches, your tree is too full. Full trees are extremely hazardous during heavy winds, or storms, leaving the potential for property damage, or broken limbs. Give your trees the proper care they deserve, so that they can provide the oxygen we need to survive.
